We had no idea when we started 24th STreet Theatre 15 years ago that it would grow into such a special place. We didn’t know in the beginning that we’d impact so many lives, that we’d inspire tens of thousands of kids, and teachers, and parents, and artists. We never would have guessed that we’d be performing and teaching internationally to spread good will to people of other nations. And we wouldn’t have guessed that we’d be a nationally recognized theatre, as we were this year when we were honored with Theatre Communications Group’s 2012 Peter Zeisler Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in the American Theatre.
We had no idea that we were creating a place where inner-city teens would come to hang out after school, a place where neighbors would go for help, a vital center for our community. 15 years ago we didn’t know that 24th STreet Theatre would become a leader in the field of Arts Education in L.A. and nationwide. Who knew when we started our Latino theatre programming that our Spanish-language show would be the first ever to win LA Weekly’s Production of the Year Award in 2011.
We wish we could say that we’ve achieved all of this because of our precise planning and keen management. But to be honest, most of our successes are due to the support we’ve had from so many of you, monetary and otherwise. We simply could not have built a grass-roots arts organization into an important L.A. mid-sized non-profit without so much help from others. These successes are as much yours as they are ours and we share them with you! This is the one thing we do know: we could never have accomplished so much over the past 15 years without you!
Please join us in our 15th annual year-end fundraising campaign. If you’ve already donated to us this year, we thank you! If not, give only what you can! Together we’ll keep making a difference for the next 15 years.
