The Value of a Great Production by Jay McAdams We are so proud that Hansel & Gretel Bluegrass has been nominated for six Stage Raw Awards (formerly known as the LA Weekly Awards). Bryan Davidson’s sophisticated adaptation was nominated, which is a big deal because the play itself is always at the heart of the work. [...]

SAFE Space

Safe Space by Jay McAdams It was said/tweeted after the cast of Hamilton famously addressed Mike Pence in their curtain call, that “the Theater must always be a safe and special place.” On that we all agree. And it is. But what we Americans no longer agree on is the meaning of the word “safe”. Some [...]

Now More Than Ever ...again by Jay McAdams Have you noticed since last week’s presidential election that people are once again using the phrase Now More Than Ever? We have already dusted off this familiar chestnut from the recent recession and re-purposed it to refer to our current political situation. And why not? This slogan worked [...]

Art Heals by Jay McAdams The day after 9/11, when everything was still closed, 24th STreet decided that we had a responsibility to open our doors and offer comfort as best we could. That night we had a standing-room-only crowd of terrified citizens who, while watching the show, collectively realized that life as we knew it [...]

Great Gordon

The Greatness of Gordon By Jay McAdams When I moved to L.A. at the age of 20, I knew very little about theatre. That now seems odd since I was moving to attend The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, an acting school dedicated to theatre training. But the only plays I had actually seen in my [...]

No Accident on the 101 By Jay McAdams There is an artist living under the Hollywood Freeway. Where Alvarado crosses underneath. Along with dozens of other homeless, he has made his home. Most are just tents with a shopping cart parked outside like their car in the driveway, but homesteaded in a very specific row [...]
