SHEILA CALLAGHAN’s (Playwright) plays have been produced and developed with ASK Theatre Projects, Playwright’s Horizons, South Coast Repertory, New Georges, Annex Theatre, Printer’s Devil, Moving Arts, and LABrynth, among others. Sheila is the recipient of a 2000 Princess Grace Award for emerging artists, a 2001 LA Weekly Award for Best One-Act, a 2001-02 Jerome Fellowship, a 2002 Chesley Prize for Lesbian Playwrighting and a 2003 MacDowell Residency. She is currently working on commissions from Playwright’s Horizons, South Coast Repertory and EST/Sloan. Her other full-length plays include “Scab,” “The Hunger Waltz,” “Crawl Fade To White,” “We Are Not These Hands,” “Dead City” and her opera “Elemental” with music by Sophocles Papavasilopoulos.
JESSICA KUBZANSKY** (Director) is an award-winning director working around the U.S. Just named co-artistic director of The Theatre at Boston Court, Kubzansky’s recent forays include the critically acclaimed “Toys in the Attic” at the Colony, the U.S. premiere of David Gow’s “Bea’s Niece” for MetroStage in D.C., “Measure For Measure” at A Noise Within, the world premiere of Bryan Davidson’s “War Music” for the Playwrights’ Arena/Echo Theatre at LATC (named one of the 10 best productions of 2002 by the Los Angeles Times, next up at the Geffen Playhouse), David Hare’s “Amy’s View” (with Carol Lawrence and Susan Egan) at International City Theatre, the award-winning Salamone/McIntyre musical “Moscow,” most recently in New York’s Chekhov Now Festival (as well as iterations in LA and Edinburgh), the world premiere of Carol Wolf’s “The Thousandth Night (Monsieur Shaherazad)” with Ron Campbell (in London’s Old Red Lion; it has toured the world); “Pirates Of Penzance” for the Publick Theatre (Boston), Tony Kushner’s “The Illusion” for the American Stage Company in Florida, “Twelfth Night” for the Grand Canyon Shakespeare Festival in Arizona, “MacBeth” at Greyfriars Kirkyard in Edinburgh and in Southern California, world premieres for the Mark Taper Forum New Works (plays by Diana Son, Paula Weston Solano, et al), “A Servant To Two Masters” at International City Theatre, “Moon For The Misbegotten” at Laguna Playhouse, “Lulu” at Pacific Resident Theatre, “Dancing At Lughnasa” at McCoy/Rigby/La Mirada, Vaclav Havel’s “The Memorandum” and “Burn This” at the “Odyssey Theatre, “The House Of Blue Leaves” at West Coast Ensemble, “Heartbreak House” at Colony Theatre, Arthur Schnitzler’s “Anatol” at Buffalo Nights, among many others. Kubzansky and her productions have received numerous awards.

JAY MCADAMS (Executive Producer) is a co-founder of 24th Street Theatre and has been its Executive Director since 1999. He has produced many successful shows and events since his beginning in Los Angeles theatre nearly 20 years ago. Though most of Jay’s theatre work now is behind the scenes, he began in theatre as an actor, having graduated from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Jay is the winner of the prestigious University of Southern California School of Education's 1999 Innovation and Leadership Award for his work in Arts Education. (The previous year’s winners were President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.)
DEBBIE DEVINE (Executive Producer) is a co-founder of 24th Street Theatre. She is also a writer and a director and is currently working on the second show of the season, "Schneewittchen/Snow White." As 24th Street's Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) Director, Debbie creates professional mainstage TYA productions and educational theatre programming for all ages. Debbie also heads the Theatre Department at the prestigious Colburn School of Performing Arts and at the Poseidon School for at-risk teens. Debbie won the USC School of Education's 1999 Innovation and Leadership Award and has LA Weekly Awards, Dramalogue Awards, and Robbies on her wall.
DANNY FRESH (Producer): In May, Mr. Fresh will complete his MFA in Producing from CalArts. He is the founder of the East Lansing Shakespeare Festival (East Lansing, MI) and served as Artistic Producer from 1998 – 2001. He is currently producing "The Sandman" in the 2003 Edge of the World Festival. He Assistant Produced a number of wonderful productions, most recently on the Center for New Theater’s international touring production of "King Lear" and the forthcoming "Peach Blossom Fan" set to open the REDCAT in downtown Los Angeles. "Kate Crackernuts" marks his first production with the great 24th Street Theatre.
The scenic designs of SUSAN GRATCH (Scenic Designer) have been seen in theaters large and small throughout Los Angeles, including: International City Theatre (“Visiting Mr. Green,” “Amy’s View,” “The Servant to Two Masters” and “Swinging on a Star”), The Colony Studio Theatre (“The Man Who Came To Dinner,” “Putting It Together,” “Heartbreak House” and many more), Los Angeles Theatre Center (“War Music, “A Knight Out in Los Angeles” (Ian McKellan)) and the Ivy Substation (for Bottom’s Dream Theatre Company and Singular Productions). Susan’s upcoming projects include “War Music” at the Geffen Playhouse. She is the faculty designer at Occidental College.
YING LE (Graphic Designer) is the graphic and web designer for 24th Street Theatre and has been with the company for three years.
MARAH MORRIS (Assistant to the Director) is a recent graduate of the USC School of Theatre and is thrilled to be back in the neighborhood and working on this amazing show. She directed many productions while at USC, including her own adaptation of “Lysistrata” and Ellen McLaughlin’s “Tongue of a Bird.” She recently directed Stoppard’s “Dogg’s Hamlet, Cahoot’s Macbeth” for the Blue House Theatre Company.
ERIC NOLFO (Technical Director) is in his second year at California Institute of the Arts M.F.A. Technical Direction program. He earned a B.F.A. from Stephens College for Women. Recently, Eric was the Technical Director for "Le Temps Mechant" and "Strung," Assistant Technical Director for "The Visit" and was a carpenter for "King Lear" in Dijon, France--all for CalArts. He would like to thank his family, Amber and their dog Finnegan for all of their support.
ELIZABETH PALMER’s (Costume Designer) costume credits include two Broadway shows, “The Goodbye People” and “Quilters,” off-Broadway productions and numerous regional theatre productions. Her television credits include the PBS mini-series “Concealed Enemies” and the series “Any Day Now” for which she received an Emmy Award nomination. “Kate Crackernuts” marks the second production with this design team directed by Jessica Kubzansky. Their previous collaboration was “War Music,” soon moving to the Geffen Playhouse.
HEATHER LOUISE PARKER (Production Stage Manager) is foremost a director and is addicted to trial by fire: having just AD’d with Jessica Kubzansky on “Toys in the Attic” at The Colony, she is proudly breaking her SM teeth on “Kate’s” tech cues. Her favorite directing include: “Fool for Love,” “The Maids” and the musicals “We Are Not Good Girls,” “I’m Getting My Act Together” and “Taking it on the Road.” Her special love include: creating new physical-theatre work like “Lucky Sorrow” at Printers’ Devil, and writing “Blue Sky Blue Screen” which was read at ACT in Seattle (FringeACT). She is a graduate of Andover, Oberlin and soon UCLA.
JEREMY PIVNICK’s (Lighting Designer) recent Kubzansky collaborations include “Toys in the Attic” at the Colony Theatre, “Bea’s Niece” at Metrostage in D.C., “Moscow” at LATC and in NYC, the world premiere of “War Music” at LATC and “Burn This” at the Odyssey Theatre. His other recent credits include “A Clockwork Orange” at the Greenway Court Theatre, “Gretty Good Time,” “A Christmas Carol King,” “Happy Days—The Musical” (dir. by Garry Marshall) at the Falcon Theatre and “Communicating Doors” at the Odyssey Theatre. Jeremy is a graduate of the USC School of Theatre.
CATHY REINKING, C.S.A. (Casting Director) graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a degree in theatre arts and was the Casting Associate on “Frasier” for eight seasons. She was also the Casting Director on “Baby Bob,” “Movie Stars” and the films “Sin” (starring Gary Oldman and Ving Rhames), “Bad City Blues,” “Jackie’s Back” (Robert Townsend, director), “Screenland Drive” and the Associate on “A Night At The Roxbury.” Her other credits include “According To Jim,” “In-Laws,” “Charlie Lawrence” (starring Nathan Lane), “Dag,” “Stark Raving Mad,” “Wings,” “The Naked Truth,” “Encore! Encore!,” “Almost Perfect,” “Nothing Sacred,” “Newsradio,” “Early Edition” and many, many pilots for all the major networks.
AUSTIN SWITSER (Video Designer) is a finishing his final year at Cal Arts studying video design for performance. He has designed video pieces for installations, dance and theater including Suzan Lori-Parks’ “In the Blood.” He has also been involved in the Cal Arts Center for New Theater’s recent production of “King Lear” that was mounted in Los Angeles last year and France this past summer. This is Austin’s first show at 24th Street Theatre.
JOHN ZALWESKI (Sound Designer) was born-again to theatre in the later works of Reza Abdoh. He’s the resident designer at Evidence Room, Playwright’s Arena artistic associate and a TCG/NEA Design Fellowship Recipient. He’s worked extensively with The Actor’s Gang, Bottom’s Dream, the Taper, 24th Street Theatre and others in LA, on “War Music,” “Mayhem,” “Mapa Mia!” “Cringe,” “Pentecost,” “Delirium Palace,” “Saved,” “The Berlin Circle,” “Chokecherry,” “One Flea Spare,” “Salomé,” “Sleepwalk,” “Slide,” “Poe” and on. His NYC work includes “Speed Hedda” with Fabulous Monsters at LaMama, “Pandora’s Last Xmas” at chashama and Juliana Francis’ “Saint Latrice” at PS122. Recently, John designed “Jewtopia” and “Sneaux” with Andy Fickman, “Bea’s Niece” at Metrostage in DC with Jessica Kubzansky and “Slide Glide” at TaperToo. He’s received one Ovation Award (seven nominations), four LAWeekly Awards (five noms) and nine BackstageWest Garlands. All last week. A “shoutout” to Jezkub and all the “sick” people at 24th Street, “yo.”
