NEW ORLEANS LOVED AND REMEMBERED
A photo exhibit curated by Norma C. Smith

Artists Helping Artists. 100% of the proceeds of all photo prints sold ($150 each) benefit Tipitina’s Artist Relief Foundation. Photos will be shipped matted and ready for framing.

GALLERY TWO FOUR Curator Norma Smith lived in the French Quarter with her husband,David, for years. A New Orleans native, both David’s father and brother lost their homes in the hurricane. So Norma has put together this photo exhibit in hopes of raising money to help the relief efforts and to honor this mystical city.

The exhibit is a collection of her own photos, along with those of actor and friend Brendan Fraser. Brendan, well known as an actor but also a respected photographer, was in New Orleans filming on location as the hurricane approached. With the mandatory evacuation, filming was halted and he returned to Los Angeles along with his photos before the storm struck. Erin Flynn’s photos are also featured, as are projected photos from Deb Devine & Jay McAdams.

And to crown these images, the most eloquent essay about New Orleans from another French Quarter resident, Harry Shearer, which captures the savage beauty of this magical place as only Harry can.

These images of New Orleans span over 30 years. Smith’s photos were made in the 70's & 80's, the images of McAdams & Devine from the late 90’s, Flynn's from 2002, and Brendan Frasers's were shot just before Katrina hit. Probably all of the buildings that Brendan photographed were in the most flooded areas of town. There were pictures on TV of Fat's Domino being rescued by boat from his flooded house. The Victorian house titled "Riverboat House" was styled after the ornate trimmings of an old paddlewheeler. It sat along the levy of the Industrial Canal.

Harry Shearer’s essay is the only piece in this exhibit done after the storm.
