La Razón Blindada

Two political prisoners, pressured by emotional and physical circumstances, meet every Sunday evening to tell each other the story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. They do so from the most extreme limitations of being imprisoned in a high-security prison or in a country surrounded by walls, but also with the vital need to tell each other a story that saves them, that transports them to a human adventure located in the imagination, that place that the most extreme reality cannot reach, a place where the most extreme pain can be mitigated by the act of imagining another reality. Thus, they continually reinvent Don Quixote, that knight who confuses windmills with giants, gray women with maidens, prisons with paradise, and who exiles himself in unreason, in that strange disorder that harms no one but profoundly helps us live.

24th Street Theatre first produced the North American premiere of La Razón Blindada in 2010, winning the LA Weekly Production of the Year Award and touring that production for over 200 performances to Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador and Ecuador as well as within the U.S. The company revived it in early 2017, and again in 2025 in response to events in the U.S.
