Each week in 'After Cool, we recognize one of our students as an exceptional artist. Here we present the Artist of the Week showcase for our first two weeks of After 'Cool this semester.

24th STreet Theatre's mission has been to give a voice to the voiceless and bring excellent arts education to a Los Angeles community that otherwise may have never known the miracle of theatre.

Just as the new school year gets into full swing, we take a day off as a nation to remember Martin Luther King Jr.'s quest for equality. 

It is fitting that we began and ended the year with events intended to offer hope to the public. We are a theatre, and theatres respond to the world around them.

A perfect way for us to end the year with some cheer, hope, and love. 

Debbie Devine—tall, with blonde curls, an alto voice and a resonating presence—stands outside the green double doors of her 24th Street Theatre, located in a rough-and-tumble neighborhood of Los Angeles not far from the University of Southern California. 

Our doors are always open.

Twenty years ago, there was no 24th STreet Theatre.  Twenty years ago, the residents of this neighborhood said we need programs for our schools, after school activities for our children, and a place to tell our own stories.
